- Adding Music To Your Snakeoil Machine
- Squeezelite and Logitech Media Server
The first time you start MPD, the music library will appear slowly. The more files you have, the longer this takes (It takes around 20 minutes to parse my 45,000 library), so please be patient. MPD is a server-side application. To play music, you need a MPD Client.
There is a a long list of MPD clients you can use play music: See Link. For Android devices my favourite is MPDroid; Apple users can try out MPad. Apps are a personal choice so really you have to find one that suits your workflow best.
From firmware 0.1.3 onwards, Client175 (a web client) is included with your Snakeoil installation. Under the heading of "Remote Control", the URL for Client175 will appear below the software player list when you select a MPD player like so:
Click on the link, and the web client will start in a new window. You'd need to perform a scan of your music library if this is your first time using MPD. To do this click the "Update Database" button. You'd know it's the first time if the stats are all listed as 0.
Rescanning can take a while - e.g. it took about 20+ minutes to catalog my 45,000 music library.
MPD supports DoP. Unlike Squeezelite, you don't have to change any other settings other than what is available in the hardware tab. Apparently mpd-git will auto-detect DSD compability (if you have a native DSD DAC, try setting the hardware to PCM and let MPD handle the DSD detection - this will do native DSD streaming).
MPD-dsd-rt supports native DSD, refer to this section on how to configure it.
