Comparing with my really well optimized win machine , snakeos is a bit faster, and It is practically as good as my CD source (Metronome T3A)

Linux just sounds better than Windows 10. I'd recently spent a fair bit of cash on Fidelizer, Audiophile Optimiser and Process Lasso for Windows 10, they made a significant improvement to the sound of the system. Snakeoil OS (can't speak for other Distros) immediately sounds better out of the box, I guess the Windows software I bought were just methods of polishing a turd. I'm extremely impressed with how Snakeoil OS operates. I won't be going back to Windows for my audio needs.
Using Snakeoil to install custom software is very easy - I've got Jriver 23 up and running, with all of my geeky tweaks to the programme running without issue.
I'm so glad to have my music back, to have it back and sounding better than before is just a blessing

I tried running Snakeoil software as I wanted to experiment with Linux environments on my audio system (after using Win10/Fidelizer/ProcessLasso/JRiver). Snakeoil really surprised me by the sound quality it offers! In my set-up it definitely beats other Linux based solutions I tried so far like the latest versions of Vortexbox 2.4 and Daphile.
Although the software is intended to be used on Atom based processors it also worked on my i5 processor out of the box without any problem. Eazy peazy to mount my NAS where my music is stored as well. The provided on-line manual is clear what settings should be used.

yes i am still listening and it is definitely an improvement on both daphile and vortexbox for SQ in my system to my ears. my new speakers affect any comparisons as their sound is quite different to the previous ones. i had intended to live with them for a week or 2 before trying $O-O$ but i thought i would just see how difficult it was to install and now i’m not going back.
so after about 12hrs of listening over 4 days i am really impressed by snakeoil and heartily recommend others to try it out and see how it works for them.

I'm using Snakeoil and I think the sound quality is excellent. I encourage people to try for themselves.

I have now listened very briefly to Squeezelite on Snake Oil O/S and it was very pleasing. Even got a couple of goosebumps, always a sign things are on the right track. And that was using the motherboard SPDIF output !! I also want to acknowledge the easy setup, web pages, documentation, etc that Agent Kith has produced. All for our benefit. Well done mate. I don’t think this has been highlighted enough. It is not just an optimized operating system, it is a flexible environment to try Linux based music players. Pick one, click save and a couple of seconds later your new player software is loaded. No more creating boot disks, re-connecting share drives, rebooting over and over.(Source)
