Hello, fellow SnakeOil Audiophilians.
New user here, and extremely happy to find this great piece of Software. I've been wanting to dedicate a pc just for music, and this is indeed a great solution, but still have a few doubts. Probably you can help me.

>To start, once i installed this OS on a ssd disk, may i put it on another hardware (other laptop, for example)? I've been doing that with Ubuntu, and is actually a feature i enjoy, as "my computer is my hard disk" - If something goes wrong with the hardware, i just swap the disk to another one, and continue having the "same computer"  - Useful when you only buy second hand laptops for personal usage Wink

>I have an amplifier and speakers on another house that has no internet or network at all. How can i use computer with SnakeOil directly? (without the need of a second pc to access it)
Is there a way for me to connect my smartphone directly by wifi or Bluetooth to the computer with SnakeOil and use MALP or MPDroid to access music that there is in the SSD? Or i always need a network in order to make it play? That would be just to hear some music sometimes, so i didn't want to create a network there...
Maybe that has something to do with "Music server" / "Music Client" ? I didn't understood that yet... Well, to be fair, i'm just "scratching the surface" of SnakeOil - There's a "whole world" to learn about it  Big Grin

>I have an Asus eeebox1030 and that would make a great music server / pc with SnakeOil , but that sucker have UEFI bios... Already looked in forum for some information about it, and i guess there may be a way to make it work? I couldn't - will have to try again. And i'll keep reading the forum.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I continue very happy with SnakeOil OS - Great sound quality and way more features than i can use...  Cool
However i still with some doubts that i can't find answers in the forum. Think

Is it possible to use it to hear music without a network? (Directly from the computer where SnakeOil is installed?)

Is there any problem to take disk from one hardware (computer) and put in other? Will it work? Is there a way to swap it to a UEFI bios computer, or new installation is needed?

Would really appreciate if some fellow user or Agent Kith could help me with these doubts.  Smile
Good day

Thank you for making such an amazing product available

I've been trying for a few weeks to get it going, but seem to stall at the same point.  Unfortunately, there is no-one around here to ask for advice and I see settings that may as well have been written in a foreign language

The VMC viewer part is ok, and the computer will boot into a login and password

I see that if I enter the IP address of the other computer on a web browser, the GUI screen appears

So just a few questions please....

Under Music servers, what do MPD (vr17), MPD (dsd-rt), MPD (v19), MPD (v20), Logitech, XMMS mean?
Then if I untick Media Servers, Music Clients pops up
Again, what do these options mean?

Then the main question I suppose is:  How do I add music to the list to play it?   Is there a list of albums, etc

I'm used to running JRiver.  I tried Tidal for a year and a bit, but despite a monthly debit coming off, my subs disappeared.   They are so automated you never get a coherent reply

Thank you

Welcome to the forum. If you see the GUI screen, you have successfully installed and SnakeOil OS is running.  Smile

SnakeOil provides the capability to manage Music Servers e.g. MPD. Logitech to read and organise music libraries, and play music via usb (& other connections) using a music client.

Where is your music located?  If it is on a USB stick in the computer, you should see it in the music library tab.

Assuming you have connected a DAC using USB and your music is on usb stick, try with Logitech Media Server as your music sever, and Squeezlite (any version) as your music client.   You should then be able to use your browser to play music
