Hi @agent_kith

Is multichannel HDMI audio supported  for use with an AVR ?

With either RPi4 or x64 PC ?

I currently use HQPlayer NAA with Windows for this but would prefer to ditch Windows even though works.

Prefer headless linux solution

I use it for stereo listening with pair of 3-way DSP crossover and room correction plus sub, so 7 channels

cheers

I did a lot of digging to find a working headless Linux solution and it appears on picoreplayer is known to be stable and technical reason is given below in screenshot, see highlighted part:

http://moodeaudio.org/forum/showthread.p...0#pid24670

The above is regarding RPi HDMI multichannel support but I would be equally happy with x64 PC support too .

I have a fanless Intel Atom based NUC type PC that I could use headlessly in the same way as RPi4.

So either RPi4 or x64 PC is fine, whichever is easiest.

Reason I can't use picoreplayer right now even though multiple people have it working is it doesn't support HQPlayer NAA but I know snakeoil OS does

I have Win10 running HQPlayer NAA fine with the Denon 4308 AVR - 7 channels x PCM192kHz for DSP crossover and room correction (using 65k tap FIR filters created by Audiolense X0)

But I hate booting Windows each time so am looking for headless Linux solution

Thanks in advance

If you can do this in Windows HQPlayer4, in theory you should be able to do the same with the Linux version.

But obviously you'll need to use a HDMI  or digital out to get that. This is not something I have tried before myself though.

Thanks, yes I have the mini HDMI cable for RPi4 to Denon AVR 4308

But Ubuntu on the RPi4 just results in stereo sound.

Did you check out the moode audio forum message above about the custom kernel with "bcm2835 driver was built with 8 channel and 24/32 bit support" required to get it working on an RPi4?

They say this is something picoreplayer has working but moode audio / dietpi / volumio do not

Is this something you can do too?

While I mentioned HQPlayer, this is not a HQP specific issue.

Everyone having issues with HDMI multichannel with RPi and Linux in general is having issues with Roon and UPnP etc too

A custom kernel builder site is currently in the roadmap. Hopefully the new GUI will sort of integrate all this in. Unsure when it'll be ready, but it's currently in my list of things to do. Smile
