Persistent RAM disk?
Posted by: emptor - 25-Oct-2020, 07:57 PM - Forum: Support & Troubleshooting - Replies (18)

Hey everyone,

I am loving snakeoil. I want to see if I can have a persistent RAM disk for my favourite tracks, so I don't have to manually add the files each time I start up the server.

I've read a webpage that you can do it with ramdisk-sync? https://linuxhint.com/ramdisk_ubuntu_1804/

Thoughts? The instructions are for ubuntu 18 and our snakeoil is on ubuntu 16.

  New User - Some doubts
Posted by: jose - 15-Oct-2020, 08:42 PM - Forum: Support & Troubleshooting - Replies (3)

Hello, fellow SnakeOil Audiophilians.
New user here, and extremely happy to find this great piece of Software. I've been wanting to dedicate a pc just for music, and this is indeed a great solution, but still have a few doubts. Probably you can help me.

>To start, once i installed this OS on a ssd disk, may i put it on another hardware (other laptop, for example)? I've been doing that with Ubuntu, and is actually a feature i enjoy, as "my computer is my hard disk" - If something goes wrong with the hardware, i just swap the disk to another one, and continue having the "same computer"  - Useful when you only buy second hand laptops for personal usage Wink

>I have an amplifier and speakers on another house that has no internet or network at all. How can i use computer with SnakeOil directly? (without the need of a second pc to access it)
Is there a way for me to connect my smartphone directly by wifi or Bluetooth to the computer with SnakeOil and use MALP or MPDroid to access music that there is in the SSD? Or i always need a network in order to make it play? That would be just to hear some music sometimes, so i didn't want to create a network there...
Maybe that has something to do with "Music server" / "Music Client" ? I didn't understood that yet... Well, to be fair, i'm just "scratching the surface" of SnakeOil - There's a "whole world" to learn about it  Big Grin

>I have an Asus eeebox1030 and that would make a great music server / pc with SnakeOil , but that sucker have UEFI bios... Already looked in forum for some information about it, and i guess there may be a way to make it work? I couldn't - will have to try again. And i'll keep reading the forum.

Thanks in advance for your help.

New MPD Client on Windows 10 - Stylophone
Posted by: mandickay - 15-Oct-2020, 03:47 PM - Forum: Computer Audio - Replies (2)

I've been looking for a remote MPD client for Windows 10 for quite a while and I finally stumbled across an app called Stylophone on Microsoft Store lately.

Stylophone is very new as it has just been released a month agaon on Microsoft Store. Its interface is rather minimalistic but neat and clean. It avoids creating big server load by storing the albumart cache on Windows but not on the server, which is pretty nice I think.

It has a 7-day trial period. You could buy the app with merely 5.0 US dollars afterwards.

  IR blaster functionality
Posted by: davem - 12-Oct-2020, 06:23 PM - Forum: Support & Troubleshooting - Replies (19)

Some time ago my squeezebox SB3 got a little ill forcing me to migrate to the squeezeplay client in snakeoil. There is just 1 feature that I miss from the squeezebox and that is the IR Blaster. I could use my iphone and ipeng app to control the player and when I hit the volume slider (or buttons on phone) the SB3 would output the volume control codes to a IR xmitter which would then blast to my amp adjusting the volume. So useful.

Back then I spent some time trying to get LIRC to work - I also found https://github.com/mundschenk-at/squeezebox-ir-events which is a daemon w/scripts to send IR code on squeezebox events. I gave up in the end because of my limited linux ability...

Has anyone played with/got this working this before ?

Would really love to get this happening.

  Repository Error
Posted by: nappyhead - 12-Oct-2020, 11:51 AM - Forum: Support & Troubleshooting - Replies (8)

In this latest update of LMS 8, the following change was made:

  • PR #267 - HTTPS certificates are now validated when LMS acts as a client. HTTPS connections to plugin repositories are no-longer retried over HTTP when they fail. The old insecure behaviour can optionally be re-enabled, although, instead, we recommend working out why HTTPS is broken in your environment and fixing that if possible.
With this change this error appears in the Plugins section

"https://repos.squeezecommunity.org/extensions.xml - Connect timed out"

Any idea what has to be changes to get rid of this error?

Thank you

ps. Still loving SO, best LMS I've  used.
