MyMPD Album Grid View
Posted by: Great_Pumpkin - 01-Apr-2020, 01:20 PM - Forum: Support & Troubleshooting - Replies (1)

Hi

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this.  I can't seem to find a way to display my albums in a grid view.  The only view possible seems to be a text list of artists which makes browsing my library somewhat difficult.  Is this feature missing because SnakeOil uses an older version of MyMPD or am I doing something wrong?  It is possible to update to the latest MyMPD or is that not such a great idea?

Thanks
GP

Variable USB output level with different DACs
Posted by: OscarH - 08-Mar-2020, 04:14 AM - Forum: Support & Troubleshooting - Replies (4)

Using the 32bit snakeoil on two different machines (one gigabyte ga-3050n-d2p and one intel dn2800mt motherboard) I experience the following:

The volume output through an ESI gigaport HD+ DAC is very low. Using either machine though a Hegel H80 integrated DAC the level is normally loud. ALSA mixer is set to 100% in all cases. Have also tried different USB cables.

Plugging a Windows PC into the gigaport DAC the output is as loud as you’d expect, so the DAC CAN indeed output a ‘normal’ signal, but doesn’t with the snakeoil machines connected.

Is there anything in Snakeoil OS that could cause one DAC but not another to interpret the signal as being lower in volume?

The Gigaport DAC may off course be faulty in which case this is not a Snakeoil issue. Before I buy another one to test that option I thought I’d post a question here.

Edit: I should add that I do know of others people who successfully use this DAC with these motherboards and Snakeoil OS without experiencing similar issues. So it’s not a fundamental compatibility issue.

[split] MPD deemph filter and cover art

My MPD Android client MPDroid, was set to download cover locally on port 80 and snakeoil machine adress eg http://192.168.2.15/music and doesn't work - no cover,  also naming scheme is correct - folder.jpg.

How to enable de-emphasis in playback of pre emphasised wav files - early first pressing cds, for example Michael Jackson and Abba.

Is HDD Advanced Power Management in SnakeOil OS possible?
Posted by: koko6969koki - 06-Mar-2020, 08:54 AM - Forum: Support & Troubleshooting - Replies (4)

Hello! Smile

I'm building a SnakeOil Intel NUC based transport that will feed my DAC.

I want to replace NUC's 2.5" 120GB SSD with a 2TB HDD, in order to accommodate a much larger music library.

Many laptop 2.5" HDD's have this aggressive head auto parking feature, that can shorten drive's life due to excessive load/unload cycles.

On my MacMini I'm dealing with this issue by using HDAPM tool and setting Advanced Power Management level to 0xfe (254).

I see that Linux users use similar tool - HDPARM.

Is there a way to implement this under SnakeOil OS?

I'm planning to run my new music computer for many hours a day, so disabling unnecessary head parking would prolong the HDD's life.

Thank you for your great work! Smile

SnakeOil OS suddenly refuses to boot. Help needed!
Posted by: koko6969koki - 03-Mar-2020, 10:22 AM - Forum: Support & Troubleshooting - Replies (6)

Hello! [Image: smile.png]
I have installed SnakeOil OS on an old 5i5 Intel NUC's SSD, everything went smoothly and it sang beautifully. Smile The sound quality was amazing!

Alas, yesterday I have decided to upgrade the NUC's BIOS to the latest version (it is a long story why) and I have discovered that the SnakeOil OS suddenly would not boot any more!
In BIOS, in both UEFi and Legacy boot sections, there are no bootable drives listed. Entering F10 boot selection shows no bootable drives.
I have tried all possible BIOS settings (secure boot is disabled, etc.), but no luck. [Image: sad.png]
I have decided to reinstall it, booted the install iso from USB flash drive, went through the whole install procedure, everything seemed fine, worked exactly as the first install, but upon reboot I'm still getting the message: "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device".
Any ideas?

PS
This is my NUC model, it has a 120GB SSD and 8GB of RAM:
