I was wondering why everyone is using ubuntu Server 22.04.3 LTS instead of 23.1?

Didn't see u for ages, pal.  How are you?

Look, 22.04.3 is not important, but "LTS" (= Long Term Support).  LTS means Ubuntu will keep updating and maintaining this version for some more years. What is an Ubuntu LTS release? | Ubuntu  So, at least we can rest assure on the internet security update.  That just fits your style. (joking)  Of course, from time to time, you still have to manually press the "OS update" button in SO menu under "System" , to enjoy the coverage in coming years.  As LTS is not smart enough to update itself automatically.

Remember to use the Ubuntu SERVER 22.04 LTS, and choose minimal installation during installation process.  Enjoy.

Thanks so much. I've been doing ok and hope you are well!

Yep, followed all the instructions including real time kernel on other pages.

Just finished the installation and getting rest server not responding. Will try rebooting.

I'm going to try reinstalling. Might be to do with not installing openssh and also going to real time kernel PRIOR to snakeoil install

ok, it's to do with my browser haha

tried edge after install and all good. Smile

can't wait to pop all my music back on and give it a test

Great!  You're welcome!
If you don't need the Snap service and Logitech Media Server, you can uninstall them, too!

I use MPD so definitely would like to uninstall LMS. Is that via the GUI or ssh?

Not aware of this Snap service, what is it and how do I go about uninstalling?

Thanks!

thanks for snapd and LMS removal Smile

Yep, did the real time kernal straight after install SO, seems to be so much easier nowadays with Ubuntu Pro!!! I've just copied all the music over. I'll have a play tomorrow!!! Can't wait to hear years of improvements.

Thanks @agent_kith and all the support from people like @hkphantomgtr and Snoopy

You're welcome, pal.  And I guess you're referring to myMPD package.

BTW, did you check the clocksource?  Are you using hpet or tsc?

Yeah, can't install mympd.

I did use hpet in the past but thought I'd try tsc for lower latency.

I'm going to at least enable in bios so i have the choice.

Ok  weird, i can play music through my existing mpdroid android app, so happy about that. But without mympd working? Is mympd req for mpdroid to connect?

I think i know my answer....haha....mympd is just another web client for MPD. MPDROID is android MPD client

To me, between HPET & TSC, the difference in sound will be easier to be noticed in those music with more instruments, richer arrangement, and stronger rhyme, e.g. orchestral, band music.  Enjoy. Shy
